How many years have you served as a foster parent, and to how many children?
I have served as a foster parent for one year and had one child for that entire year.
Why did you become a foster parent?
I have always wanted to foster and adopt children, but in my mind, I would be married early, have kids of my own, and then get to that later. At age 33 I sat with an empty bedroom and thought.. Why Not? A child needs this bedroom. I am fortunate enough to have time, money, and other resources to give. One child living under my roof and being shown the love of Christ can impact generations to come. I became a foster parent to utilize the mission field that is available right in my own home.
Why do you continue to be a foster parent?
I continue to foster because the children need us. My experience has been one of the most rewarding of my life and it brings me lots of joy.
Describe your family dynamic.
I am a single parent but my foster child runs the house. We learn something new about each other every day. Family and friends provide the support that I need when I need it - which is often!
What is your favorite activity to do as a family?
My favorite thing to do with my foster child was to push her in the stroller to the local park, chatting and laughing while on our way. Then swinging her way too high and eating lots of snacks.
What has God taught you as a foster parent?
God has taught me that everything we are and have belongs to Him. These children are His and He will move mountains for them. He may allow us to care for them for a short time but ultimately they are His and He will make sure that His plan for them comes to pass. It’s such an honor to truly know that you are being used by Him!
